Ran the half with my nephew Mike.  This was his first 1/2 so I was real excited for him.  It poured down rain the whole race (the whole day).  We were  soaked.   Mike had to stop periodically to get the mud out of his shoes that had oozed in.  The last 3 miles were through the woods so Mike and I were running through mini rivers and lakes on the muddy road.

The "mulch covered sand" (from previous runs) is now pine needle and pine cone covered sand.  The pine cones and wet ground made it tricky coming down hills near the end but we managed not to fall (especially tricky for Mike because he couldn't wear his glasses in the rain).

We also had a friend named Jeffrey running with us.  He was going for a personal PR so we didn't see him during the race.  Mike is the one with the beard.  Jeffery is the one in the back.  I'm the one with the green headband (I wore it in memory of my friend 'Greany'.  He died 1 year ago on this day).

Great race!  Great day!

What fun!! I know your nephew will always remember the fun he had running and swimming his first half with you.

I can't imagine that mulch covered sand being pine cones, pine needles, and wet. That's a slippery slope!

I'm so jealous! I had hoped to be back to a point where I could run this one (and the 5k the day before) since my sister lives down that way. Didn't work out, but it sounds like you guys had a great time! Everyone remembers their first half! Congrats to all of you.
